National Register of Persons EMEP – Digitally Networked
The EMEP (Εθνικό Μητρώο Επικοινωνίας) is the national communications register of Greece. Registration is necessary for all residents and significantly facilitates access to government services.
What is the EMEP?
The EMEP (Εθνικό Μητρώο Επικοινωνίας - National Communications Register) is the central register of persons in Greece. It was introduced to simplify and digitize communication between citizens and government bodies.
Since almost all electronic government and semi-government platforms now communicate with each other, entry in the National Register of Persons is necessary. It makes life much easier for citizens as authorities can retrieve your contact details directly from the register.

How do I register in EMEP?
Registration takes place entirely online - no physical presence at an authority is necessary. You follow the description on the platform. In the event of an error, the system automatically complains.
The following data is stored in EMEP:
- Full name (identical to passport)
- Greek phone number
- Email address
- Residential address in Greece
This information can be changed at any time if you move or get a new telephone number.
Important information
- In addition to Greek, the platform is also available in English.
- Be sure to check all data for typing errors.
- It is best to enter everything in capital letters, absolutely identical to the ones in the passport and with Latin letters.
- You need a Greek phone number for registration.
Why is the EMEP so important?
The EMEP is the basis for digital communication with Greek authorities. Without EMEP registration, you will not be able to use many online services and will not receive official notifications from authorities. Registration is therefore one of the first steps after arriving in Greece.
