Your Personal Emigration Plan
Successful emigration requires careful planning. This timeline gives you an overview of all important steps – from initial planning to your first year in Greece.
Phase 1: 3–6 Months Before Departure
- ☐ Tax Clarification: Check double taxation and 7% flat rate with a specialized tax advisor
- ☐ Health Insurance: Clarify conditions with your current health insurance or obtain an offer from KPT Bern
- ☐ Accident Insurance: Check extension insurance with SUVA
- ☐ Relocation/Car: Clarify costs; weigh EURO 5 requirement and cost/benefit for the car
- ☐ Security: Arrange bank power of attorney, will, and living will
- ☐ Vaccinations: Check vaccination status and update if necessary (Hepatitis, Shingles, standard vaccinations)
- ☐ Accommodation: Search for accommodation in Greece and sign a rental agreement
- ☐ Greek Prepaid SIM: Obtain and activate
Phase 2: Immediately Before Departure
- ☐ Deregistration from the Swiss municipality
- ☐ Form S1: Request from the health insurance company upon presentation of the deregistration certificate
- ☐ Documents: Compile all important original documents and copies
- ☐ Swiss Account: Inform the bank about the change of address, clarify conditions for Swiss abroad
- ☐ Mail: Set up mail forwarding service
- ☐ Subscriptions: Cancel or change Swiss subscriptions
Phase 3: First Weeks in Greece
- ☐ Tax Number AFM: Apply online or through a tax advisor
- ☐ Gov.gr Wallet: Set up the app on your phone
- ☐ EMEP: Registration in the National Register of Persons
- ☐ Accommodation: Register for electricity, water, internet
- ☐ Local SIM: If not already done, activate a Greek mobile number
Phase 4: Within the First 3 Months
- ☐ EFKA: Apply for the AMKA number with Form S1
- ☐ Foreigners' Authority: Apply for a registration certificate
- ☐ Bank Account: Open a Greek bank account
- ☐ Swiss Embassy: Register with your AHV number
- ☐ AHV (SAK in Geneva): Submit information about residency and health insurance proof
- ☐ Pension Fund: Inform about change of residence
Phase 5: Within the First Year
- ☐ Driving License: Exchange Swiss driving license for a Greek one (recommended via KEP)
