Medication, Pre-existing Conditions & Vaccinations
How to start your vacation in Greece in a relaxed way
Don't worry, your healthcare in Greece will run smoothly – and often even cheaper! Many medications and vaccinations are readily available here. Let's go through this step by step so you can prepare optimally.
Adjusting long-term medications
In Greece, you won't always find the exact same medications as in Switzerland, but that's not an obstacle – there are suitable alternatives. If you're visiting for a holiday (ideally before emigrating), simply take your package and the package insert to a pharmacy. The pharmacist will find the Greek equivalent and give you information that you can discuss with your Swiss family doctor. Tip: Medications are noticeably cheaper here!
Documenting pre-existing conditions
It's very helpful to bring medical documents such as X-rays, ultrasound reports, or examination reports – even if it's not mandatory. If your hospital or doctor doesn't release the originals, ask for a brief medical history. The electronic patient record exists, but it's not yet established everywhere.
Checking prophylactic vaccinations
It's worth clarifying: check if your standard vaccinations (and possibly hepatitis or shingles) are up to date. This is a personal decision – all vaccinations can easily be caught up in Greece, at the family doctor or even in pharmacies.

Your to-do list for preparation
Check vaccination status: Check hepatitis, shingles, and standard vaccinations (e.g., tetanus, measles).
Test medications: On a holiday trip, take the package + package insert to a Greek pharmacy and ask about alternatives.
Collect documents: Secure medical records (images, reports) or request medical history from your doctor.
Discuss with family doctor: Clarify everything before emigration and refresh vaccinations in Switzerland if necessary.
Utilize pharmacy prices: Shop in Greece – save real money!
With these steps, you are well prepared. Greece will take good care of you!
